Auction #215 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 987 in auction 215
Item Description
17.5x22.5". This is a rare poster version of what is also found as a newsprint fold out. This example is done on slightly thicker white stock. Additional text reads "The Fascists Have Already Decided In Advance To Murder Chairman Bobby Seale In The Electric Chair" followed by a long statement from "Eldridge Cleaver Minister Of Information Black Panther Party". These were printed and sold in the early 1970's for legal defense after Seale was charged with conspiracy and inciting a riot during the Democratic National Convention in 1968. The image of Seale in the electric chair is by Emory Douglas and was used in a variety of formats. Seale would later credit the image with helping save his life. Very faint putty marks on reverse corners from hanging. Oval dark brown spot slightly below the very center of poster and some very faint light brown spots just right of the electric chair. Fine. Despite minor flaw this is an exceptional example of a rare poster. Milo Pyne Collection.
