Item Description
Whitman #1126, ©1934 Frank Baum. Story by Oz author L. Frank Baum's son Frank J. Baum, w/art by Milt Youngren. BLB features alternating text pages w/single panel pictures. Following Baum's retirement from writing new Oz books, publishers Reilly & Lee (who retained the rights to continue the series) hired Ruth Plumly Thompson to author new Oz books. When Frank J. Baum wrote this BLB, Reilly & Lee felt the book infringed upon their publishing rights, suing Whitman and Baum, successfully blocking the release of a second Oz BLB. The out-of-court settlement also required Whitman to agree to not reprint "The Laughing Dragon Of Oz" and destroy all existing copies. As a result, only a portion of the original 250,000 print run was actually released, making this one of the rarest BLBs. Spine has some aging and a few small color rubs along edges w/wear at top/bottom corners of cover. Pages are aged to cream in color and book is still a tight copy. VF/NM. High grade example. Rare title and very rare in this condition.
