Item Description
First is 1-3/16” wide brass license with threaded post reverse. This is for 1916. Exc. Next is undated but very early and quite large flat piece of silvered brass with a brass post which has a brass screw cap soldered on the reverse. The soldering appears original but the brass post and cap could be a bit newer. This piece reads “Public Hack/License/1058 (Hand Stamped)/New York City.” Tiny dots of silvering off. The earliest license of this sort we’ve seen. Group also includes a pair of 2.75x4” stiff “License” cards. One is a chauffeur’s license for 1919 and the other a chauffeur’s license for 1920. Both have been filled out in type and hand signed along with a real photo of the licensee Daniel P. DeGennaro from Hoboken. The third item was also issued to him and this is a stiff cover 3x4.75” booklet. Text is a little dark on the front cover but readable as “City Of New York/Department Of Licenses/Public Hack Driver’s License/1920.” Inside front cover has pencil signed 1920 chauffeurs license on the left while the paper on the right references “City Of New York Public Hack Driver” again with his photo and signature and with a Document No. 999 and License No. 10909. Minor age in the form of dust soil on the first couple interior pages. See following two additional groups of hack driver/taxi items.
