Item Description
ONLINE DESCRIPTION UPDATED FROM CATALOG- 2.5x5.25". Listed as JMC-12 in Sullivan/Fischer reference. This historically significant ribbon reads "22nd Assembly District Democratic Organization Cox/Smith/Walker And Victory". Al Smith relinquished his Governorship in this election but by 1922 had been reelected and would eventually become the 1928 Democratic party's nominee for the Presidency. Harry C. Walker served as Al Smith's Lt. Gov. from 1919-1920. In 1920 he won the Democratic Primary for the US Senate but was eventually defeated by incumbent Republican James Wadsworth. Trace of light soiling throughout. Very minor 2" vertical fold at top extending to the 'R' in 'Democratic'. Otherwise only minor fraying about 1" from top at right and left not affecting the design. VF. This is the first example of this ribbon we can recall coming to market in decades. A rare opportunity.
