Item Description
Outstanding collection of 12 serially numbered buttons each 2-1/8” issued by the “Commonwealth Of Virginia/Bureau Of Labor And Industrial Statistics.” Each with text designating “Child Labor Street Permit.” Each has a tin reverse with horizontal pin plus a cutout in the metal displaying a cardboard insert where the child signed their name, address and birth date. The birth dates on these range from 1907 up to 1912. Eleven of the 12 are largely readable. The four buttons in the top row designate “Errand Boy.” The following eight button designate “Newsboy.” There are three different color schemes. Those with some visible age stain on the outer edge are row 1 #2 and 3 and row 2 #1 and row 3 #2. The “Errand Boy” serial numbers run between 5853 up to 6188. The “Newsboy” serial numbers run from 433-5997. A remarkable collection of unique buttons. Paul Muchinsky Collection.
