Item Description
The earliest Mickey Mouse Clubs were based in movie theaters and members elected a slate of officers ranging from “Chief” down to other positions such as “Cheer Leader”, see following item. This is the exceedingly rare 2.25” “Chief” button although with much brown age stain. The metal back has a layer of dark brown oxidation and the celluloid front is pretty much covered in brown age marks although button retains its full color and surface gloss. While we show a clean example of this “Chief” button in the early editions of Hake’s Popular Culture Price Guide, we cannot recall ever offering one in our auctions. If this button were without stain we estimate it would easily realize $2000-$3000 but as such we’ve set a modest opening bid for what is an exceptionally rare button.
