Item Description
By sponsorship the radio Orphan Annie premiums were issued by Ovaltine with the last three in the group by Quaker. For Captain Midnight the first three were issued by Skelly oil with the final decoder from Ovaltine. For Dick Tracy these three came from Quaker. Smallest item is the 1” Orphan Annie brass member badge while largest item is the “How To Fly By Captain Sparks” booklet at 5.25x7”. Annie is pictured along with the Captain in full color on the back cover. This was the instruction booklet for a very elaborate punch out replica of an Airplane Cockpit premium. In order the premiums for Orphan Annie are: 1934 bronze membership pin, a pair of 1934 brass good luck tokens, the 1936, very scarce, “Silver Star Member” folder, 1939 brass identification bracelet showing American flag in a bow design with the initial “E” above, from the Quaker sponsored Secret Guard (S.G.) is the 1941 Mysto-Snapper (a tin clicker) and the 1942 tin Safety Guard tri-tone signaler badge. For Captain Midnight is the “Trick And Riddle” book issued in 1939 along with his 1939 Weather Forecasting badge plus from 1940 Flight Patrol spinning medal in brass. The decoder is from Ovaltine 1955/1956 and was known as the Secret Squadron Plane Puzzle decoder. For Dick Tracy is the “Air Detective” brass pin as well as the “Air Detective” brass bracelet, both from 1938, followed by a Mint 1939 “Dick Tracy Secret Service Patrol Second Year Member” badge. The two booklets have a minimum of wear. The metal pieces are at least VF but vast majority are Exc. to Mint. An outstanding group of classic premiums.
