Item Description
17.25x25" poster for 1930s magic show that starred The Great Chang, a magician who frequently shared the bill w/other Asian illusionists; Fak-Hong in this instance. Poster was printed in Valencia, Spain. In spite of the sound of his appellation, Chang was actually the stage name of Juan Pablo Jesorum (1889-1972), a native of Panama who learned magic as an assistant/interpreter for The Great Raymond. Jesorum began his solo career in 1913 as "The Great Pablo," then later as "Li-Ho Chang" and still later simply as "Chang." Though he toured all over the world w/his magic show, it was in South America where he found his greatest success, best known for his presentation of "Shooting A Bullet Through A Woman," an illusion also performed by Carter the Great. Poster is wonderfully illustrated, w/image of Chang in Chinese robes as he summons massive snake and skeleton from an open chest. A number of demons can be seen in bkg. and at Chang's feet. Three geese and a stork also appear. Poster has been rolled and is evenly aged. Scattered lt. margin wear but VF overall.
