Complete set of eight painted composition displays and two painted cottage fiberboard bkg. displays. c. 1938 by Old King Cole Inc., the premiere manufacturer of Disney store displays. Each of the figural displays (including Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs) is two-dimensional w/original wood bracing/framework attached to reverse. Snow White measures 13.5x39-5/8" tall while each Dwarfs stands approx. 20.5" to 24" tall. Each has their character name recessed into design. Designed for store window display or store wall display, small braces could be easily added to the wooden framework for floor display if so desired. Fronts show original paint w/just a few small spots of touch-up here and there to flakes on a few displays (most noticeable on Snow White, Grumpy and Doc). Back sides have been painted over, including covering original small Old King Cole labels. This was done long ago and does not affect fronts' display. Each has scattered areas of crazing w/some small scattered paint flakes. Dopey has .75" flake on his cheek and a 3.5" hairline crack at bottom left where his over-sized shirt drags. Sleepy has 1" crack to extended fingertip and moderate paint flaking to raised paintbrush. His cheek has moderate crazing w/slight surface indent. VG/Fine to Fine overall and still nice for display. These two-dimensional displays come w/pair of flat painted fiberboard bkg. pieces designed as cottages that match in style to the Old King Cole displays but are unmarked. Smallest cottage measures 39.5x39-5/8" has has a number of small holes at top center roof peak. Bottom right corner has 1.75x2" corner covered w/masking tape. Scattered edge wear/dust soiling. Fine overall. Larger cottage measures 39.75x53" and bottom corners have 2.25x2.25" and 2x2.5" corners covered w/masking tape. Left roof peak and center roof peak have a number of small holes as does top of chimney at right. Scattered wear/dust soiling. VG/Fine overall. All Walt Disney Old King Cole displays are among the best and most sought after Disneyana of any era. Our recent auction results for these rare displays include $14,000 for a mechanical Donald Duck display and $29,000 for a mechanical Mickey and Minnie Mouse display pair. This Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs set (while not mechanical) is equally impressive in overall design and rarity. This is the only complete set in this style known to exist. There is a single example of another Old King Cole Snow White display set, but it features totally different designs for the characters.
