Item Description
11.25x14.25" thin artboard has original pen and ink art by Jose Delbo for "The Monkees" #5 (Oct. 1967) published by Dell Publishing Co. Inc. Delbo is an Argentinian-American artist who has drawn scores of comic books including work at Charlton Comics, Western Publishing and DC Comics. He has provided art for titles including "Twilight Zone, Turok, Doctor Solar, Supergirl, Jimmy Olsen, Lois Lane" and "Wonder Woman." Delbo has also taught at the Joe Kubert School of Cartooning and Graphic Arts. Story is for "The Man From M.O.N.K.E.E." (obviously inspired by "The Man From U.N.C.L.E.") story which features the band accidentally getting a spy's luggage while aboard a plane that lands in African country. Art features five panels and shows the plane flying over desert, an angry mob waiting for plane w/guns and swords, all four members of the band exiting plane and noticing everyone is asleep (in reality all were knocked unconscious by luggage flying around and hitting peoples' heads), exiting plane on "North African Airlines" steps and spy girl leading them away. All four Monkees appear in third and fourth panels, Mike Nesmith is seen in last panel, other Monkees in shadow. Right margin has "Dell Comics - Monkees 5" inkstamp and some editorial notations while top margins has some inked notations. Artboard remains clean and Exc. Comes w/reading copy of comic book this art is featured in.
