Item Description
Pair of 10.5x13.75" softcovers w/superb full color wrap-around covers of superheroes by noted comic book artist Jim Steranko. Characters shown include - Superman, Batman, Human Torch, Spider-Man, Captain America, The Shadow, The Spirit, Wonder Woman, Nick Fury, Plastic Man, Uncle Sam and many more. First volume (©1970) has 84 bw pages, second (©1972) has 128. Both are first printings and were published by Steranko's company Supergraphics. Each is quite comprehensive, going from pulps through the Golden Age of comic book superheroes w/text and numerous illustrations including several nice unpublished specialty pieces by major Golden Age artists, comic book cover images and character design sketches. Great text concerning the history of comics. Volume 1 has been signed in person "To My Pal Jake" in black ink. Inscription/signature is a bit smudged, but still totally legible. Volume 2 has "To My Friend Jake" inscription in black felt tip pen on title page. Both volumes have some pinch creases to spines w/some scattered color rubs and aging. Fine-VF overall w/Exc. contents. To this day, still two of the best publications ever done on Golden Age superheroes. Comes with Hake's COA.
