Item Description
7x14.5" thin cardboard folder, die-cut in the shape of Superman, who stands in classic hands-on-hips pose. Issued by Superman Inc. c. 1940. Folder opens to reveal promotional text for the "Superman" radio show, that reads in part - "Do You Know That Superman - America's No. 1 Comic Strip Hero And Radio's Greatest New Show Has A C.A.B. Rating of 5.6 - The Highest Rating Of Any 3-Time A Week Show On The Air - And That It Is Now Available To Radio Advertisers In Your Territory?" Text goes on to note that 78 15-minute long recordings had already been made and lists numbers of readers for newspapers as well as "Action Comics" and "Superman" comic books. Great full body image of Superman at radio microphone at right, w/sponsor H-O Oats listed w/stations and broadcast times. Text also mentions that these listings appear in "Action Comics, More Fun Comics, Adventure Comics" and "Detective Comics." Superman premiums are also noted, including rings, shirts, toys, badges, games, playsuits, books, coloring sets, belts and more. Back features newspaper design w/overlapped articles about Superman and some comic panels. One headline mentions Hitler. Large text block reading "For Further Details - Write - Wire - Phone - Superman Incorporated - 480 Lexington Ave. - New York City - Plaza 3-0740." Folder has two creases to Superman's neck and some very minor surface rippling at ankles. Minor scattered color rubs. Trace aging to Superman's face on folder front. Fine/VF overall. Very rare, this is the only example we know of. A true Superman rarity. Franco Toscanini Collection.
