Item Description
16.75x23" eight-page section of "The New York Sun" newspaper for Nov. 15, 1940 features nearly entirety of one page w/large full body image of Superman towering over crowd of rushing children heading toward "Macy's Superman Show." This ad served as announcement for Macy's "Superman Adventure" show, w/"Tomorrow Superman Opens Toyland At Macy's" text. Text goes on to say "Boys And Girls. Step This Way. Step Right Up To Toyland, At Macy's On Herald Square. Join The World's Most Colossal Christmas Carnival. See The World's Most Stupendous Collection Of Fascinating Toys - Toys Of Every Type And Description For Girls And Boys Of Every Age. Ladies And Gentlemen, Treat Your Sons And Daughters To The Thrills And Chills Of The Great, Mysterious Superman Show - Yes! A Perilous Journey Through Space Personally Conducted By Superman Himself - Superman, The Modern Titan; Superman, The Man Of Steel!" Folded as issued w/faint vertical crease. Paper has even moderate aging and has become slightly brittle w/age at edges. Margins show scattered wear w/some small tears. Right margin has some .25" edge tears w/.75" tear at center fold. Fine overall, but ad remains bright and clean and would make for a wonderful framed display. Rare. Franco Toscanini Collection.
