Item Description
15.5x16x5" deep cardboard box w/full color illustrated label (showing "Lufthansa" plane) contains 16.5" long tin litho passenger airplane w/19" wide wingspan. Made in West Germany by Schuco, 1950s. Box shows scattered aging/wear w/surface paper wear, but retains its shape and lid label remains clean w/just minor scuff. Fine. Plane features hard plastic motor housings and soft plastic propellers. Wonderful realistic depiction of KLM airline's "The Flying Dutchman" plane, complete w/"Schuco" name and "PV-VIJ Koninklijke Luchvaart MIJ N V Holland" tail markings. Comes w/detailed illustrated instruction booklet (aged w/handling wear), steering cable and wheel. Plane has various functions that include motors that start one at a time and then speed up, plane travels about and then stops, motors shut off. Two three-dimensional pilot figures in cockpit under clear plastic, which has scuff mark and 1-3/8" hairline crack. Fuselage has two on/off switches and just tiny scratch. Plane is untested but old store stock and is o/w Exc. Several versions of this toy were produced, each featuring the markings of various airlines, but all versions were issued in the "Lufthansa" boxes. KLM is a scarcer variant. Great design.
