Item Description
Sizes are 1.25 to 2.5. 13 of the 15 are the only examples found in the collection and 5 of these have his documentation on the reverse. Group begins with 3 for Los Siete de la Raza—this was the label given seven young Latinos from the San Francisco Mission District who were involved in altercation with police that resulted in an officer’s death. The trial became a cause celebre in the Latin American community. All seven were acquitted. Row 2 #1 translates to Justice For The Inmates and may relate to previous 3 buttons. Next relates to Union City, Decoto area, when in 1974 an officer killed Alberto Terrones, Jr. leading to riots and the murder of the police chief two months later. Next also references “Decoto Brothers” with 1975 date and may relate to the start of a drug rehabilitation program still running. Next two for “No Deporatacion” with open back on first and closed back on second with Levin note “1973?”. Next three in three colors have 1977 date on back. All three reference “NSCAR”. Last in Row 4 has same “NSCAR” and includes “Stop the Deportations”. Bottom row #1 is Badge A Minit back with note “LRUP 1981”. Next is from Workers World Party circa 1980 and last circa 1982 shows Hector Marroquin, an admitted illegal from Mexico who requested asylum for various reasons including his Marxist beliefs. Items are NM and display Mint. Comes with Hake’s COA. Many scarce to rare buttons.
