Item Description
1978-1983. A brochure from “WISE” (World Information Service on Energy, Washington D.C.) included in this collection explains The Smiling Sun originated in Denmark in 1975 and spread worldwide to represent the grassroots anti-nuclear/safe energy movement in over 40 regional and national languages. This button collection represents 43 different countries but there are 96 buttons. There are 93 at 1.5” and three at 1.75”. Nearly all have inked documentation on the reverse by Marshall Levin with name of country, some with year of issue (1978-1983), and a few with maker name and/or quantity made. Some with identical country name are varieties with or without a registration symbol. Some that appear identical are from a different year or maker and some vary as to the type of reverse metal. While the differences can be small, no more than 10 of the 96 are a precise duplicate. Also included are eight different stickers 4-6” dia. in six languages and four different 5x6” sheets with 12 to 16 stickers 1.5’ in four languages. Items are essentially mint. Items are in 7 plastic sheets in 3-ring binder as collected by Levin. An in depth collection from the anti-nuclear movement’s early years. Comes with Hake’s COA.
