Item Description
4x5" envelope reading "Franklin Badge Said To Have Been Worn At His Funeral" with additional faint pencil text "John Phillips Curator Print Dept. Yale". Within envelope is a 3" long silk ribbon featuring a profile bust with text beneath reading "Franklin". While it's possible this is from Franklin's funeral in April of 1790 it's also possible this was made as a commemorative in the early decades of the 18th century. Ribbon has 1.5" light diagonal crease at upper right not affecting the portrait. Some fading of ink to the text at bottom while the portrait retains a commanding presence. Fine. Rare and first we've offered. Additional photos online.
