5.5x6x6.75" tall painted cast iron bank is marked on underside w/maker's name - The J&C Stevens Co. Very politically incorrect, bank features stereotypical depiction of African-American man and has raised "Jolly Nigger Bank" name on back along w/patent number. 1890s. Lever on back of arm causes hand to lift coin to mouth when pushed, tongue goes in and coin drops while eyes roll. It has an older repaint and is missing trap. Scattered wear and aging w/trace oxidation, more moderate on interior. Fine.
