Item Description
Eight celluloid and four metal lapel studs ranging from .5 to .75”. Group begins with dated 1894 item with letters likely standing for Young Men’s Business Club. Next comes “Monroe Doctrine/1823-1895” issued at the time of the Venezuelan crisis of 1895. The country was in a territorial dispute with Britain and the United States intervened in the dispute to force arbitration and thus tacit acceptance of the U.S. right to intervene under the Monroe Doctrine. In order the other pieces depict real photo under celluloid of Benjamin Harrison circa 1892, Bryan under celluloid circa 1896, the earliest depiction on celluloid of the “Grand Old Party” elephant, three pieces with McKinley and/or Hobart from 1896. Second of these has couple of barely seen craze lines in the celluloid and the last has a tiny dot of age on the rim. Next comes brass lapel stud for “Taft”, figural elephant lapel stud for “Hoover”, silvered brass stud showing FDR with text “For Defense For President” and a brass stud with embossed elephant head and text “Republican Party 1854” , probably issued circa 1940. Exc. Condition except as noted. Numerous rarities.
