Item Description
A solar eclipse May 28, 1900 was fresh in the mind of button makers when the Democrats and Republicans nominated their candidates that summer. A number of different designs were produced including this one, which reads on the top edge “Partial Eclipse” with a real photo below of McKinley overlapping a smaller real photo of Bryan and concluding with the slogan “Will Be Total In November.” Reverse has fixed horizontal pin and back paper of Indianapolis Photo Button Mfg. Co. Back paper has a 1/16" hole near the bottom. While the button displays mint as made, our website photo which magnifies the 1.25" button eight times, reveals about 10 pale tan dots on the cream color area below the photos. It also greatly exaggerates two tiny bottom edge crimping  bumps that occurred in assembly. The tan dots are not seen on the actual size 1.25" button. The surface has only the most minimal wear  and is extraordinarily glossy. While we've modified the description to account for the dots that show under 8x magnification, few, if any, examples surpass the visual appearance of this one.  Cataloged as Hake #68 with 2004 guide value of $2,025.
