Item Description
Hake #67. 1.75” with concave metal back and fixed horizontal pin. The button is also known in the format of an open back with spring pin, both versions made by Hoegee. Reverse of this has small .25” split but the celluloid lays flat enough so that it does not make an edge bump. This button has numerous design elements and was produced by a club founded October, 1900. They describe themselves as a “Bronco Busting Republican Club Of Los Angeles.” Many were 1898 war veterans and the button was made perhaps as early as 1902 and very likely used for TR’s visit to the Los Angeles area May 7-8, 1903. TR rides a galloping white rabbit and holds a pair of six guns in the air. There is a small wishbone design on the upturned brim of his hat. There is a very small and very little contrasting air mark on the right of TR’s hat and another on the far left side between 9-10:30 o’clock. These are seen very little and the remaining celluloid is totally bright and clean with Exc. gloss. Aside from the very minor small split on the back the button is essentially Mint as made.
