Item Description
First is 7/8” and Hake #86 reading “Governor Alfred E. Smith/With Malice Toward None/With Charity For All.” Although button shows a photo of Smith, younger than in 1928, it may be a 1928 campaign button as the reverse has a paper reading “Compliments M.A. Daly New Haven Conn.” Both this and the following button with the same photo of him carry union bugs by Bastian. This one has hairline 1/8” cello split and tiny dot bump both on the reverse and both exceedingly minor although the dot bump does make a tiny raised mark near the bottom edge which can be seen from the front. The front otherwise displays Mint. Next is Hake #87. A .75” button reading “Democratic Candidate A.E. Smith.” Reverse has hairline .25” cello split along the collet but celluloid lays very flat and does not create an edge bump. On the front there is a tiny and faint mark on his forehead with a .25” light scratch between his ear and the star design on the right. Still with full gloss. Don & Mildred Wright Collection.
