Item Description
Pair of thin artboards, each w/pen and ink original art. First measures 6-5/8x27-1/8" and is for May 29, 1941 daily strip. Four-panel strip features Lone Ranger and Tonto grappling w/group of men, Lone Ranger being overpowered in first panel and calling for Silver, who races to his rescue. Free of the attacking men, Lone Ranger and Tonto make a break for it, escaping on Silver and Scout in last panel, Lone Ranger shouting his trademark "Hi-Yo, Silver, Away-y-y-y!" Art by longtime "Lone Ranger" artist Charles Flanders, who has signed last panel. Lone Ranger and Tonto appear in all four panels, Silver in three. Each panel has aged screentone shading accents, Tonto is missing screentone in second panel and Lone Ranger is missing screentone in third panel. Both these areas show some glue staining. Lower right margin has also been signed in pencil "OK Trendle," referencing George Trendle, who created The Lone Ranger w/writer Fran Striker in Jan., 1933. Last panel has KFS copyright strip paste-over. Scattered edge wear to artboard, but art remains clean and is o/w VF. Comes w/6.75x19.5" thin artboard w/original pen and ink art in three panels. Dec. 6, 1961 daily strip features injured Lone Ranger firing his gun at fleeing stagecoach, grazing man. Last panel shows Silver helping Lone Ranger to his feet. By Charles Flanders and signed in first panel, which also has KFS copyright strip paste-over. Two vertical folds and scattered staining. Strip has some glue staining from missing screentone shading accents. First panel has one word removed from panel and this area has aged and glued replacement is missing. VG. Charlie Roberts Collection.
