8.25x11.5" Aug. 16, 1954 Vol. 1, #1 issue of weekly sports magazine w/146 pages. Front cover has color photo of night action scene w/batter Ed Mathews in home game at Milwaukee Stadium. Contents include "The Battle Of The Bubblegum" complete w/three-panel fold-out which opens to 11.5x23.5" and pictures 27 example cards from the Topps Gum 250 card set of 1954. Back of each card is printed exactly like actual card. Players shown include - Jackie Robinson, Willie Mays, Duke Snider, Ted Williams, Larry Doby, Gil Hodges. Issue also features nice color photos of Rocky Marciano boxing Ezzard Charles. Issue has pinch crease to spine and minor corner tip wear. Exc. Comes in nice quality 10x12.5" leather "Sports Illustrated" presentation folder as it was issued as part of a limited edition from 1990 and includes Sports Illustrated COA (w/facsimile president signature) dated Sept. 20, 1990 attesting that this is one of the original print run, and issue is of file copy quality. Historic sports publication.
