Item Description
Each is a 13/16” litho from series inserted into 1940s packages of Kellogg’s Pep. Vast majority of the buttons in the set are NM to Mint with only about a dozen that have a tiny dot of two of paint loss or very small scuff. The worst of these is for The Fire Chief, which has a pair of paint marks on the background. In addition, the buttons for Sandy and Uncle Walt are very rarely seen versions that have no text on the metal reverse. The typical button has blue text Kellogg’s Pep on grey but these backgrounds are unpainted silvered tin and must have been part of a very small production run or error in the printing. In addition to the 86 buttons there are 20 additional duplicates. Among the dupes, Dick Tracy has paint dot off his cheek and The Phantom has a couple of tiny raised bumps with a little faint discoloration on left edge but other than these two exceptions the duplicates are VF to Mint. The set of 86 display beautifully as is but it would take only a few substitutions to bring the set up to the completely NM to Mint level.
