Item Description
The first movie club began January 11, 1930 at Fox Dome Theater in Ocean Park, California. The first button in this group is from very early 1930 and this is the rather crude image of Mickey which was used. Button has tiny copyright symbol but does not even carry Disney’s name. While the first club had Disney’s endorsement, they could not let this design persist so they quickly intervened and required the use of the following 7/8” button depicting Mickey in a studio approved form. Reverse of this has back paper by Phila. Badge and front of the button includes “Copy. 1928/1930 By W.E. Disney.” Tiny bit of air around Mickey’s ears as made but this like the first is essentially NM displaying Mint. This 7/8” button did not last long either, as it was decided that the 1.25” size was more striking and they added the orange color. This button also carries Phila. Badge Co. paper. There is light tan stain around the word “Mouse” at the top but about 95% of it remains clean. The first two buttons in the group are quite scarce.
