Item Description
This group and the following are both from the collection of Marshall Levin who amassed between 1960-2000 probably the world’s largest button collection. Levin had inside connections with many New York City button makers and when he could document the date or quantity made he wrote this information on the reverse in black magic marker. These 30 pieces were issued between 1973 and 1979. Sizes are 1” to 3”. Those with date and/or quantity notation on the back are as follows. Row 1 #1-1973, #3-1974, #5-1975/2,500 made. In Row 2 first button was found unacceptable and second button has more of a close-up photo with Levin notation on reverse “Corrected Version 11/75-M” (meaning 1,000 made). Row 2 #5-1976. Row 3 #1 has reverse text “Test/Blue Plate Absent”. Others are #2 from April 74/500, #3-1974/1500, #4-“Cambridge Mass./5/78-250, #5-1976, #6-Aug. 1975, #7 in brass 1979. In Row 4 the first four are notated Feb. 1974-500. #5 notated “Star Base II Great Neck, NY 5-76-250. In Row 5 first two are notated Aug. 1975, #3-4-75-500, #4-Dec. 1975/500 and #5-1978. All are essentially Mint as made. Comes with Hake’s COA.
