Item Description
28.25x41.75" one-sheet for the original release of the first film adaptation of the Man of Steel, the "Superman" movie serial released in 1948 by Columbia that starred Kirk Alyn as Superman. Columbia Pictures and National Comics Pub. Inc. (the predecessor of DC Comics) created this advance crossover poster promoting their flagship superstar Superman w/text reading "The One And Only Superman - Your Favorite Hero Of Comics Magazines, Radio And Newspapers Comes To Dynamic Real Life In Columbia's Thrilling Movie Serial!" Poster features great near full body image of Superman flying over three comic books - "Action Comics" #125 (Oct., 1948), "Superman" #54 (Sept., 1948) and "World's Finest Comics" #36 (Sept., 1948), which features Batman and Robin on the cover. While main purpose of poster is to promote Columbia's serial, it also promotes National Comics Pub. Inc. comic books featuring Superman. Poster was folded but has since been linen-mounted, original fold lines all but disappearing. Poster has some exceedingly minor color touch-ups that were professionally done as mounted. Touch-ups were only done by first letter of "The" at top left, the "U" in "Superman" and along top fold lines. A thin line of touch-up was done to fold line running across Superman's chin and upper chest/shoulder, but this is only noticeable upon close inspection and other touch-ups are very minor. Poster remains bright white, clean and displays NM. This poster is quite rare, w/only a few known examples and is among the most sought after of all Superman posters. Franco Toscanini Collection.
