Item Description
7.75x8" thin art board with 6 5/8x6 7/8" image area with wonderful ink and watercolor art. Amos and Andy listening to candlestick phone with word ballon text coming out of receiver. "Bob Mumford wants to join the Mystic Order of The Shrine like his old man. Give him the password -Andy!" Art is signed at lower right in ink by George Mallory. Board is glued to larger board which has pencil notation on front "original color sketch for Amos & Andy comic strip ad agency: Foote, Cone& Belding, 1937". Art comes with typewritten letter on "J. Walter Thompson Company" letterhead dated July 27, 1949 to recipient. Letter mentions "Enclosed is a original color sketch I did some years ago" signed in red pencil "Uncle George". Letter has a few minor handling creases; art is clean, bright, and Exc.
