Item Description
9x11.25” front and back cover contains twenty one 8.5x11” thin printed pages. Contract is for the classic 1933 comedy “Duck Soup” starring the four Marx Brothers. This contract is for Paramount Pictures with Leo McCarey directing a film that was untitled at the time of this contract, later becoming “Duck Soup.” Contract states that the Marx Brothers be paid a total of $200,000.00 and receive 20% of the films gross. Various pages are signed by Paramount executive and page #15 is signed by the four Marx Brothers in blue fountain pen in their birth names: Leo Marx (Chico), Arthur Marx (Harpo), Julius H. Marx (Groucho), and Herbert Marx (Zeppo). This page is also signed by three Vice Presidents of Paramount. Pages have light aging and handling wear but signature page is Exc. with extremely distinct and vibrant signatures. Covers have some moderate dust soiling and handling wear and are FN. Cover has titles “Horse Feathers, Monkey Business, and Duck Soup,” with Horse Feathers and Monkey Business crossed out in pencil. Contract has a pair of hole punches as originally produced. Great piece of cinematic comedy history that brings to mind the classic bit, "The party of the first part shall be known in this contract as the party of the first part." Comes with certificate of authenticity from Hake’s Americana.
