Item Description
11x15" print with 1" frame shows impressive engraved portrait "Engraved By William E. Marshall From The Original Portrait In The Boston Athenaeum Painted By Gilbert Stuart." Stuart, who is declared the "Father Of American Portraiture" by his contemporaries, is best known for his portrait of Washington, which became the basis for the image of Washington on the one dollar bill. He also executed portraits of the first five presidents of the United States and these are still used as their official portraits today.
Mounted below this impressive portrait is something even more awe-inspiring: the signature of George Washington, the first president of the United States. Boldly signed "G Wafhington (the letter "F" was used for "S" frequently during the late 18th century) with his usual flourishes, this .75x3-7/8" clip captures one of the most important signatures in American history. A beautiful and Exc. display. Comes with Hake's COA.
