Item Description
8" diameter with star-shaped tin fastener accented by blue faceted stone at left center. Double-sided cardboard band with depiction of clouds and moon in its phases slides away to reveal double-sided depiction of the universe with silver stars spelling out "Rex Febr. 18th 1896/New Orleans LA." Card opens to gorgeous color scenes of "Rex" in unicorn drawn chariot plus on right side numerous scenes of Romans, serpents, centaur, dragon, angels, etc. Hairline glue repair on each side where card is hinged to open, o/w Exc. Rare. Very limited issue among New Orleans high society. See early New Orleans buttons #681-682.
