Item Description
8.5" long cast aluminum Indy race car with rubber tires is mounted by a pair of screws to a 6.5x11" block of lacquered wood with engraved metal plate on front reading "Wilbur Shaw 1940 Winner." The racer itself is from the 1930s and piece was customized c. 1940 after Shaw won his third of three Indianapolis 500 races. Shaw was president of the Indianapolis Speedway from 1945-1954 when he was killed in an airplane crash. Body of the racer has all-over light trace of aging but remains bright with much luster. VF. Great display piece.
