Item Description
. Lot of two 10 5/8”x12” proof sheets for a series of six daily comic strips thought to have been used to promote the upcoming 1933 RKO film, “King Kong.” We are unsure if strips ever ran. B/w proof sheets contain six strips showing fairly detailed plot summary of the film. King Kong is featured in all but five panels, two of which contain Kong’s hand. Strip was originally done by artist Glenn Cravath, an illustrator for magazines, newspapers and film studios. His works include Captain Video, Captain Africa, Terry And The Pirates, and many others. He is historically known for his work on King Kong. He created original art for the poster and various production items as well as this comic strip. Proof set was acquired via auction of the archives of Cravath a few years ago. Only three set of these proofs are known, and two are held in private collections. Both sheets have a 12” horizontal crease running through paper, but do not interfere with panels. Some light aging at corners, but panels retain a clean appearance and would look Exc. matted and framed. Rare.
