Item Description
Graphic 7/8". "I Gave For Dr. Bethune." Issued c. 1936-37 to support Norman Bethune. He joined Communist Party of Canada in 1935 and soon went to Spain. He is famous for developing mobile medical units, later known as Mobil Army Surgical Hospital (MASH) units and performed battlefield surgical operations on war casualties. He went to China in 1938-39 to aid against Japanese Imperialism (see lots 422-423). Chairman Mao Zedong later published a tribute essay documenting Bethune's final months before his death in China. Mao made "In Memory Of Norman Bethune" required reading for the entire Chinese population and wrote in the preface "As A Selfless Internationalist, Dr. Bethune Served As A Role Model For Every Human Being."
