Item Description
2.25" litho reads "Delegate/Free Browder/Congress/60140." Union labels on each side. Metal-covered back with bar pin. Convicted 1917 of conspiracy against draft laws and sentenced to 16 months in prison. Imprisoned again in 1919. Ran for US representative from New York while in prison in 1930. Pardoned in 1933. Ran for president on Communist ticket 1936-1940. Arrested in 1939 for a passport violation and convicted and sentenced to 4 years in prison (sentence was commuted after 14 months). Expelled from Communist Party in 1946. Died in Princeton, N.J. 1973. Only the fourth we've seen and the last of two acquired in a 1930s/40s collection from a NYC area left-wing activist.
