Item Description
This large 2.25" celluloid pinback has large red serial number "4" at the center. Rest of text reads "Official Dempsey-Tunney Sesquicentennial Stadium Philadelphia September 23, 1926." Probably no more than a handful of these buttons were produced and this is a rare surviving example from a famous match. Reverse is covered in tin with horizontal bar pin. Center has faint stamp of maker "Cruver Mfg. Co. Chicago." Metal reverse has very light surface oxidation but there is absolutely no stain on the celluloid. Only celluloid defects are a pair of tiny raised pinpoint surface bumps that can be felt or will catch reflected light. Button front remains totally clean with high gloss and perfect centering. One of the most historic and likely probably the rarest boxing related buttons we will ever be able to offer. Only example known to us.
