Item Description
7/8" lapel stud, rather than pinback variety with intense color portrait of him in fighting stance. Bkg. has scattered but tiny and very light age dots. Item is c. 1897, the year of his St. Patrick's Day fight with James J. Corbett (see previous item) at Carson City, Nevada in the first open air arena ever erected specifically for a boxing match. Fitzsimmons won in the 14th round. Item is made by W&H with their name on the stud back. Scarcer than the pinback version. See Mutt & Jeff comic character boxing item #1527.
