Item Description
3x4.25" high quality leather wallet made by Pioneer issued in 1949 by Fo-Lee Gum Corp. of Philadelphia, PA as a premium. Front has wonderful embossed full figure Superman image design depicting him in action pose, surrounded by accent rays and circular border design. One foot and his cape stretch beyond the border, and his name is in script below left foot. Inside right side has zippered compartment "Pioneer Imported Leather" text below. Area of ink residue from original owner's name. Left interior side has attached 1.5x1.5" die-cut shield badge w/classic enamel image of Superman breaking chains w/his name at bottom coming out of circular border w/enamel stars surrounded by brass luster burst design. This is badge version made just for this wallet w/tabs on reverse to attach it as opposed to version w/bar pin on reverse that was issued on its own. Both versions of this badge are very rare. Wallet shows lt. wear w/some discoloration to interior zipper, but still glossy and Fine overall. Badge has some scattered wear as stored w/some pinpoint spots of luster missing, but much luster remains and badge retains near full color. VG overall. The only other wallet and badge combination we offered in our 49 years (in higher grade) sold for $8,477. An incredibly rare set. Franco Toscanini Collection.
