Item Description
Felt pennant 17.5" long plus four streamers each 4". Printed text "1st American Astronaut In Orbit/Lt. Col./John H. Glenn, Jr./Around The World In 80 Min." At left is illustration of his capsule which has taped on, as issued, stiff cardboard 3" circular piece with his portrait and text "First American In Orbit/Astronaut John Glenn." At right is a patriotic rosette in thin celluloid with streamers while at left is 1.75" pin-back button showing him and with his name and text "1st American Astronaut In Orbit." Red circle just a little faded on the button and the ribbon below probably held once held some type of plastic novelty. Pennant has some brown staining behind the button but button can be positioned so this barely shows. Upper left corner of vertical blue felt piece has one tiny insect hole plus a narrow streak of missing material about ¼" long. Our first seen of this design and quite unusual with the cardboard portrait attachment.
