Item Description
1.25" cartoon of cream pie flying towards the face of Ohio Governor James Rhodes. Text reads: "Yippie!/ Let 1000 Pies Fly/ Gov. Rhodes Aug. 16, '77". Steven Conliff, an important leader of the Yippies second wave and about 25 protestors confronted the Governor at the opening of the Ohio State Fair. They were protesting plans to build a gymnasium near the site where four youths were killed in 1970 by Ohio National Guardsmen. The protestors chanted "Remember Kent State/Move The Gym." Conliff and six others were arrested. The group made the button shortly after the event and there is a variety from the one year anniversary with date of 1978. Text a bit off center to the left as made. NM. Scarce.
