Item Description
This gigantic gold bug in heavy cast brass measures 5-3/8" long. The underside of the body is hollow and holds the largest spring pin we've ever seen which measures 3.75" long. Bugs of this size were used by pinning them to the saddle blankets of horses partaking in McKinley campaign parades. The brass finish has darkened on a .25" length of one antenna but otherwise the piece is essentially Mint as made. We've seen about four examples of this largest known pin size over five decades. Rare.
