Item Description
3.25x6" post card. Postal used with cancellation from 1934. Reverse of card has statement directed at "District Attorney Neil McAllister". Front of card features image of all 18 with text "Free The 18 Sacramento Criminal Syndicalism Victims/ They Face 6 To 84 Years in San Quentin." McAllister led a raid of local Communist Party headquarters and eventually charged the defendants with criminal syndicalism, a law designed to prevent radicals from making public calls for violence that was enacted around the 'Red Scare' fears just after World War I. See previous lot for I.L.D. history. Very faint toning at edges otherwise clean with sturdy paper and quite sharp corners. Exc.
