Item Description
4.5x6.75" clothbound hardcover w/252 pages. This is first edition published in Great Britain by The Readers Library Publishing Company Ltd. (printed by Greycaine Limited) in 1936. As noted by editor, this book serves as a novelization of the 1935 Universal horror film of the same name that starred Boris Karloff and Elsa Lanchester. Book comes w/original dust jacket featuring art by an unknown artist, showing Karloff as Frankenstein's Monster holding Lanchester's Bride's hand. Of note, the Bride's hair is depicted as red, Lanchester's natural color. Small "A Universal Picture" plane circling globe logo at bottom right. Novel was penned by Michael Egremont (the pen-name of Michael Harrison) and unlike the majority of Universal's films, there was no direct Bride of Frankenstein novel to sell as a tie-in as there was w/"Dracula, Frankenstein" and "The Invisible Man." DJ is free of clips and has had some professional restoration to spine panel, w/the upper third replaced w/a facsimile and restoration to lower spine and corners. Most blends nicely for a Fine display w/vibrant color. Book itself has some corner tip wear and pages have evenly aged to lt. cream in color. Text block has darkened, but still a VF example. A very rare and highly sought after book for both book and Universal Monster collectors. First we've offered in our 49 years. Comes w/high quality custom clothbound clamshell case for safekeeping.
