Item Description
15" stuffed fabric doll w/velveteen head and felt ears. Hands and feet are also velveteen. Stitched facial details. From the rare Aesop's Fables Movie Dolls series. c. 1931. See Aesop's Fables book #1803. Doll's Disney connection lies in the fact that Walt Disney took legal action against the Van Bueren Corporation for plagiarizing Mickey Mouse by creating a look-alike character by the name of Milton Mouse. Print cotton skirt is variety featuring images of Countess and other Aesop's Fables characters. Wire armature for posing. Handwritten "I'm 'The Countess'" inked text underneath skirt on doll's body. Additional handwritten inked text on back of doll (again under skirt) reading "Fox West Theatre - August 20, 1932 - Junior Reed - 1909 - Lucky Number," indicating that this doll was issued as a movie theater prize. Patch repair at crotch. Even aging to velveteen areas. Missing tail. Fine.
