Item Description
The Love Token is a coin which has been smoothed or flattened on one or both sides and then hand engraved, often to utilize in jewelry. These coins were given as mementos or keepsakes from the giver to the recipient, and often engraved with initials or images to commemorate important memories or events in their lives. This lot contains a gold one dollar coin with what appears to be a blacksmith's furnace and tongs engraved and was attached at one point to a piece of jewelry. The 1854 Half Dime has a rather elaborate engraving on the reverse and was also attached to a piece of jewelry on the obverse. An interesting lot from an often overlooked sub section of the numismatic community.
