Item Description
Original cardboard box featuring caricature portraits of The Marx Brothers contains 17" tall doll. Box end panel has maker's name- "Modern Doll Of California Los Angeles." 1950s. Box also has "Groucho" name stamped on end panel and shows obvious and heavy wear, w/corner/edge splits to lid, side panel piece missing from lid, moderate moisture staining, etc. Just Good and comes along. All three Marx Brothers had dolls produced, w/pliable rubber head w/detailed, slightly caricatured depiction of Groucho w/painted features and small deerstalker hat. Stuffed cloth body which has lt. surface dust and slight fade to sash, but doll remains sturdy w/movable legs/arms. Head has evenly darkened w/age as is typical for these dolls. Small metal bells added to tips of hands and at knees by original owner, but all else is as issued and complete. VF/Exc. overall. All of these dolls are rare and this doll is very rare as boxed (and the first we have offered as such in our 49 years). We have offered single dolls (w/o boxes) in the past that sold for over $1,000 and a set for over $2,000.
