Item Description
12" tall solid plaster statue shows famous burlesque performer Sally Rand in the nude, w/one hand held in front of her and one hand held behind her. Each hand has small hole for insertion of actual feather plume, used to replicate Rand's iconic fan dance. As such, front of base has incised "Fan Dance" text. Rather than being awarded as a prize in carnival throw games of the period, these statues were obtained at the 1933-1934 New York World's Fair through purchasing a covered punch card for 10¢. Includes single feather plume (other is easily replaced) and features red accents to nipples and belly button area. Some scattered paint wear to raised areas (including minor wear to nipple tips), but Fine/VF overall. Great design. Rare and first we've offered in our 49 years. Eric Renner Collection and the example shown on page 137 of his book "American Disguise."
