Item Description
7.75x8.75x3.25" deep hinged box portable lantern made by Binghamton 20th Century Company. Partial company label on interior surface w/text regarding item and 1905 patent date and jack o'lantern pumpkin image. Label shows obvious wear and is VG. Lantern interior also has cardboard candle holder and heat vent at top surrounded by small glued in asbestos square. Top of lantern has original cloth carrying handle. Textured paper-covered cardboard lantern body. Illustrated paper roll is attached to a pair of wooden rollers. Images show through large die-cut hole on front of lantern. Images include - jack o'lantern pumpkin, black cat, owl, blackface, Asian and clown moon faces and Santa Claus in chimney w/toys. Roll has extensive wear in the form of cracks, missing margin pieces, etc. and has been backed w/paper and an additional textured backing. Roll is VG overall. Lantern body has some dust soiling and some missing surface paper and creases. VG. Despite defects, still an interesting early piece w/wonderful Halloween and Christmas images.
