Item Description
Size 16, 2" dia. Swiss Gunmetal Open Face pocket watch w/built-in stopwatch feature. Back of opens, revealing second inner door that opens to reveal watch movement. Allion à Versailles were a French company contracted to supply the French Air Service w/clocks, watches and instruments. While they did not make this watch, they bought and imported Swiss movements and had dials made up w/"Allion à Versailles" on them and assembled them into timepieces. Movement is unsigned but attributed to Swiss maker Le Phare. White porcelain dial marked w/bold black numerals w/sub seconds dial at 6 o'clock position and stopwatch dial at 12 o'clock position. Button in center of crown stops/starts/resets chronograph. c. 1914. Serial number 316094. Case shows some wear and aged patina. Running and all functions work. Inner case door has some scratches and marks from tool. Case is Fine overall. Dial is Exc. Scarce early US Air Service timepiece.
